The one thing I wanted to be sure to do this spring for my birthday and/or Mother's Day was get out for a hike in the Gorge.
In our kid-friendly hiking book, we found a trail that we probably would never have gone to otherwise, as it was only about a two mile loop. Turns out it's a fairly spectacular two miles.
The first waterfall was visible as soon as you started on the trail - it drops a couple hundred feet and was amazing to see, but we weren't able to get that close.
We followed the trail up the Latourell river canyon. It started raining, and we weren't actually sure there was another waterfall, so we debated turning around.
Boy I'm glad we didn't. At the top of the loop we found the second waterfall, smaller but much closer - the trail went right by the plunge pool.
The water thundered down about 75 ft off the wall of the canyon, and we were soaked by the spray. Petra LOVED it. She just stared in awe up at the waterfall.
When it came time to leave, she didn't want to go! The whole way down the trail and in the car she kept saying "we saw a waterfall!" (when she wasn't singing abc's).
And then she entertained us on the way home by proving she can still bite her own toes.
