Since it's almost February, I think it's high time to post pictures from our 2010 holidays. We had a pretty quiet Christmas at home. Christmas Eve we did the traditional cheese fondue, with handfuls of Swiss cheese melted in broth and wine (YUM).
Petra enjoyed this new form of cheese - I think she's a convert.
She has an impish habit of putting her foot on the table during dinner, because she knows we don't like it (she thinks it's really fun to do this while looking right at you with a big grin). That night she outdid herself with both feet up at the same time. Joe and I had a hard time keeping a straight face, although we were so in awe of her connective tissue we had to take a picture.
Christmas morning the gifts were piled up under the tree (95% of them for Petra). It was really fun to watch to open them, because of course she wanted to play with each one right away. I think we got through maybe three by nap time.
Something she can actually bang on with our approval.
The wooden watermelon made her a little hungry - she tried to eat it!
Her Nana got her three cute little hair clips and an Elmo necklace, and of course she wanted to wear all of them at once.
The first place she went to play with her new tea set was the dog's water bowl.

The day after Christmas, we headed out to Joe's bandmate's house at Gearhart on the coast. Petra and Pika both approved the decision.
We had some great walks on the beach, in spite of the driving rain and hailstorms.
Petra loved the ocean and wanted to run and jump in the waves. She was absolutely fearless! She called it the "oh-ess".
After a few restful days at the coast, we headed back to Portland, did a few loads of laundry, and then loaded the car back up to head into the mountains to our friends' house in Sisters, where a ton of snow had just fallen.
Petra loved eating snow, throwing snow, feeding it to Pika, and making snow angels (she called hers "baby angels").
She seemed to like being dragged around on a sled with her buddies on flat ground, but she wasn't so sure about it when Joe or I tried to take her sledding down the driveway.
And when either of us went down the big hill without her, she screamed - "fall! fall!" - and cried. She was really concerned, it was very sweet. After a few more times I think she started to get the difference between falling and sledding. It'll be interesting to see how she reacts to it next time.
Snow makes a girl tired.
What better place to wrap up the trip than in a hot tub!
